The Cloudbase Foundation continually supports The Rainbow Room in Big Spring, TX through fundraising at the Hang Gliding Nationals.
The Rainbow Room is an emergency resource center available to Child Protective Services caseworkers to help them meet the critical needs of abused and neglected children. When stocked with all new items, the Rainbow Room provides much need items for children: clothing, shoes, underwear, baby formula, school supplies, hygiene items, beds, and car seats. These items go directly to children entering foster or relative care and to children in their own homes who live below the poverty line. Donated funds are spent on everything from diapers for infants removed from violent situations, to teenagers who want to attend their prom. Big Spring is a small town, part of the oil boom, and has all the social problems that go with that transient population.
In 2013, $4,200 was raised! Donations from the Cloudbase Foundation from last year were immediately spent on much needed school clothes for the beginning of the school year in August. The Cloudbase Foundation provided further support in 2015 for the The Rainbow Room in Big Spring, TX so that they may be able to continue to provide for the children in need.
In 2016, pilots at the Hang Gliding Nationals from August 7-13 raised a total of $2,100 through donations and an auction, which included an infamous Texas straw hat. A Cloudbase Foundation grant will match $1,000 of the donations, bringing the total to $3,100! This year, the funds will be utilized to buy car seats in a range of sizes for the social workers to use for family visits, and for use by families who are otherwise at risk of losing their children.
